Logo Design Unit 2.

Logo Design Unit Details
Unit title:  Logo Design
Key concept: Development
Development: Is the act or process of growth, progress or evolution, sometimes through iterative improvements. All ideas need refinement, through development, to become successful, appropriate and feasible. The development of solution allows problem to be solved with greater success.

Related Concepts: Sustainability
AKA Strands: Economics for development.
Statement of Inquiry: Timely interaction with clients using appropriate communication techniques derives design decision.

Inquiry Questions
Factual:  what are the different soft wares used to design logos?
Conceptual:  How do logos contribute on marketing of a client product/ service?
Debatable:  Is Logo creation a work of art?

DESIGN CYCLE

There are four stages to be followed when solving problems using IT solutions or technology: The four steps are described in four criteria.
These includes:

  1. Criterion A: Inquiring and Analysing ( Investigation stage).
  2. Criterion B: Developing ideas.
  3. Criterion C: Creating the solution or product.
  4. Criterion D: Evaluating.
In each and every criterion, the highest grade is 8 and lowest 0

Activities

Every designer may approach a problem in a different way. Depending on their specialism, designers tend to have their own methodology, but some general activities are common to all designers.

The design cycle model underpins the design process. The design cycle model above represents the MYP design methodology of how designers develop products. The process is divided into four stages: inquiring and analyzing; developing ideas; creating the solution; evaluating.

This incremental process allows the designer to go from identifying a design opportunity to the testing and evaluation of a solution. This process leads to the creation of solutions that solve a problem.

Activities:

1. what is a logo or Trademark?
2. Why do companies need logos to their business?
3. What is the difference between Logo and Trademark?
4. List any five software for creating logos.
5. List logos that have had influenced our childhood.
6. List and explain the different types of logos.
7. Which are these logos?

Dear Student,
Kindly go through your DD work sheets On Logo design during DD lesson in school to complete the assignments. We shall be completing a given task in the workbook in each lesson. Any assignment given in class place take it seriously and submit it on time.
Remember the the deadline for Criterion A Inquiring and Analysing is on 10th December 2015 at 11:55 PM.
Maximum: 8
At the end of year 1, students should be able to:
i. explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem
ii. state and prioritize the main points of research needed to develop a solution to
the problem
iii. describe the main features of one existing product that inspires a solution to the
problem
iv. present the main findings of relevant research.

Criterion D: Evaluating.

Your challenge is to;
i. outline simple, relevant testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution
ii. outline the success of the solution against the design  specification
iii. outline how the solution could be improved
iv. outline the impact of the solution on the client/ target audience

Criterion D: Evaluating
0
The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below.
1 — 2
The student defines a testing method, which is used to measure the success of the solution, states the success of the solution.
3 — 4
The student defines a relevant testing method, which generates data, to measure the success of the solution, states the success of the solution against the design specification based on the results of one relevant test, states one way in which the solution could be improved, states one way in which the solution can impact the client/target audience.
5 — 6
The student defines relevant testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution, states the success of the solution against the design specification based on relevant product testing, outlines one way in which the solution could be improved, outlines the impact of the solution on the client/target audience, with guidance.
7 — 8
The student outlines simple, relevant testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution, outlines the success of the solution against the design specification based on authentic product testing, outlines how the solution could be improved, outlines the impact of the solution on the client/target audience.

Criterion D Guidelines.
i.                   outline simple, relevant testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution (create a table to show how you will test the final product on a scale 1-5)

ii. outline the success of the solution against the design  specification ( use the scale to score each specification 1to 5 and give comments.)

LOGO DESIGN; CRITERION B

Criterion B

Criterion B: Developing Ideas

In this stage you will;
        i.  develop a list of success criteria for the solution (Design Specification)
ii.   present feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others
    iii.   present the chosen design

iv.   Create a planning drawing/diagram which outlines the main details for making the chosen solution.

i. Developing a list of success criteria for the solution
What are the main features (specs) you want to see in your final product (Logo).
List 6 of them.
Examples:

Logo should have an introduction showing the problem situation.
Logo should have four company colors.
Logo should have a text showing.......

ii.  present feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others
You will be required to design how you expect your logo to look like. This will include the introduction explaining the problem. Look at the examples below.
Areas to consider:

  • Draw/ sketch 4 designs.
  • Annotate/Text/ explain every content placed on the storyboard.
  • Leave a margin around the designs for easy scan or photocopy.
  • Use black ink / dark pencil that are clear and readable.
  • Show the direction of flow of ideas. use numbers, letters and arrows.
  • Capture all the design specs.

1.

2.

3.

   iii.. present the chosen design.

From the two designs (storyboards/templates) above; ( Write in paragraph form)
·         Which design will you chose for your final animation product?
·         Why did you choose that particular design? Justify
·         What improvements can you make to your chosen design?

iv. Create a planning drawing/diagram which outlines the main details for making the chosen solution.
In this step you will show the steps you will take to complete your task. Use the design specification you mentioned in the first objectives.

Example: Production Plan.
